Becoming Learners...
In preschool, children first learn, "how to learn." They begin to form their attitudes toward school and to see themselves as learners. Strong preschool experiences will help a child think, "I am a good learner. I can find problems to solve. I can master a difficult task." These experiences show preschool children the power that learning holds. To encourage this kind of successful learning our staff has to understand how children grow and develop. To do this the teachers apply their knowledge of child development as well as the knowledge they have gained by forming a relationship with each child and family as they model a Caring and Sharing attitude.
Our curriculum is the High Scope Curriculum which believes that it is important to build upon the interests of children. That means our teachers plan and facilitate activities that go where the child wants to go. The teachers follow the children's interest paying special attention to:
* the physical environment in which the children learn
* the organization of both the teacher 's and the student's time
* the observation, documentation, and questioning that makes learning come alive
* And the involvement of family and community in the learning process
With these criteria always in the forefront, our classroom offers a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities for the children to explore, discover, and manipulate. We strongly believe children learn through play. We also enjoy baking/cooking, art projects, science experiments, gardening, reading, and having fun!
