What You Need to Know as a Student Teacher at Indi Kids.
1. Speak and behave in a professional manner with staff, children, parents, visitors, et cetera, at all times.
2. Orient yourself to follow the policies and procedures of Indi Kids.
3. Take direction from your assigned Head Teacher (although taking initiative to complete routine tasks without being asked and offering to play additional roles are highly valued).
4. Never discuss a child’s behavior with anyone other than with that child’s teacher. If you are asked questions by any parent about a child’s behavior, please refer them to the head teacher. Do not assume this responsibility. Please remember that you have signed a confidentiality agreement that is kept on file at the Children’s School.
5. Be responsible. Sign the log at the office each day upon arrival and remember to sign out at the end of your assigned time; If you are going to be late or absent on your assigned day contact the office (724-349-1821) before 8:00 AM as well as your professor.
6. Dress for Success! AVOID REVEALING CLOTHING . For more info see dress guidelines
7. NO CELL PHONES!
8. Be a model. You are an adult model not a playmate. Behave calmly and keep your voice quiet and pleasant.
9. Avoid engaging in conversation with other assistants, observers, teachers, or parents while supervising children. If you are assigned to supervise a specific child or watch an activity, NEVER turn your back on either one.
10. Refrain from eating and drinking in the classroom, other than at snack or lunch times with the children and after receiving permission from your head teacher.
11. Refrain from commenting on children’s clothing, accessories, etc. Even a comment such as “What a pretty dress” is unnecessary and can be considered gender biased.
12. Ask questions. Better to get direction than to do something incorrectly.
Above all…Learn lots and have fun!
