Scheduling for toddlers can be a frustrating task. Our schedule reflects the philosophy of the
Indi Kids program. Using the HighScope curriculum we recognize play as the medium through which children learn. During free play the teaching staff choose toys and manipulatives to enhance learning. During a winter theme, there may be "winter" animals in the sand and water tables. The teaching staff will then talk about arctic animals or hibernation. Actual construction outside our window means that construction toys and books need to be available to our children. Free play is a wonderful time for the children to learn and explore their interests.

Meal times in the Zephyr room become class meeting times. This time is used to discuss our classroom themes and projects. Meeting time allows the children to talk about their interests--the things that are important in their lives. These interests become the basis for theme and project choices.  Our book and toy shelves reflect these various interests, not just one major theme.
